Dr. Wei Liu, Associate Professor at the School of Innovation and Creative Design, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Design Engineering from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, a Master's degree in IT Product Design from the University of Southern Denmark, and a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design from the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT). His research covers empathy-driven interaction design, human-computer interaction, user experience and engineering psychology, and focuses on integrating innovative technologies into human-centered design processes, thus promoting the deep integration of design and technology. In his teaching and research, he has always been committed to integrating creativity, interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative design methods into education and practice, and promoting continuous innovation and development in the design field. He has been honored as a China-U.S. Fulbright Senior Research Scholar and the First Prize of National Teaching Achievement. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed academic articles in top international journals and conferences. Based on his rich research and practical experience, he has achieved remarkable results through in-depth cooperation with internationally renowned companies such as Apple, Google, Boeing, Porsche, Saint-Gobain, Lenovo, etc., focusing on the innovation and development of intelligent travel solutions, precision medical technology and creative education system. In the academic field, he served as an associate researcher in the Department of Psychology at Beijing Normal University, leading the construction of the user experience direction of the Master of Applied Psychology program, and as an assistant professor and assistant dean of the School of Design and Creativity at Tongji University. In the industry, he has worked as a user experience designer for Autodesk and an interaction designer for Motorola, leading or participating in the design of iconic products such as AutoCAD and ROKR series.

Recruitment Post:Post-doctoral (1-2)


Job responsibilities

  • Carry out technology development and research related to postdoctoral topics, and publish high-level academic papers in related fields;

  • Lead or participate in grant applications for relevant research projects with the support of the subject group;

  • Undertake an appropriate amount of graduate student supervision and management to assist in team building and academic development.


Job Requirements

  • Recent Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction, Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality/Mixed Reality, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Psychology, or related field;

  • Solid research skills with experience in high-level publications and/or research program applications;

  • Strong technical background and familiarity with core hardware and software related to the candidate's field, as well as the ability to learn and adapt to technology quickly;

  • Proactive team player, excellent organizational and coordination skills, and proficient in communicating, reading and writing in English.

Compensation package

  • Annual salary of $330,000-400,000/year. Excellent candidates can apply for the Chancellor's Excellence Postdoctoral Fellowship, with a salary of up to $415,000/year upon successful application;

  • As a regular employee of the school, he/she can apply for Shenzhen household registration, enjoy medical treatment, insurance, arrange children's enrollment in school and nursery school, etc., and participate in social insurance and housing provident fund in accordance with the relevant regulations of Shenzhen;

  • Applicants whose doctoral graduation institutions are ranked in the top 200 internationally are eligible to apply for the "Guangdong Overseas Postdoctoral Talent Support Program";

  • Postdocs who are not using the on-campus swing dormitory or not relying on the university to use the public rental housing in Shenzhen will be entitled to an additional housing allowance of RMB 2,800/month before tax (subject to the latest standard of SUSTech);

  • With excellent working environment and opportunities for cooperation and exchanges within and outside China, postdocs enjoy academic exchange funding during their stay in the station, totaling 25,000 yuan for two years (subject to the latest standard of SUSTech);

  • For postdocs who meet the requirements of the latest policy related to "Rental and Living Subsidy for Newly Introduced Talents in Shenzhen", they can be assisted to apply for a one-time rental and living subsidy of RMB 30,000 yuan in Shenzhen after settling down in Shenzhen (tax exemption, independent online application);

  • Postdoctoral fellows who choose to stay in Shenzhen to engage in scientific research and who have signed labor (employment) contracts with enterprises and institutions in the city for more than three years can apply for the Shenzhen Postdoctoral Fellowship for Scientific Research in Shenzhen. The Shenzhen Municipal Government grants each person 100,000 RMB per year for 3 years (subject to the latest reporting requirements of Shenzhen).

qualifications

  • A degree in a related field (e.g., industrial design, computers, psychology, etc.);

  • Familiar with basic theories, research methods, design processes and common tools related to human-computer interaction;

  • Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods;

  • Familiarity with design software, intelligent hardware and related programming techniques;

  • Research experience and experience writing research grant applications;

  • Excellent English language skills with fluent written and verbal communication skills.

Position: Research Assistant/Visiting Student (2-3)


Job responsibilities

  • Work closely with the team leader to help organize and implement research projects;

  • Participate in design, experiments and related research activities according to the research plan;

  • Assist in writing research grant applications and related academic papers;

  • Assist in the coordination and management of project progress to ensure timely completion of research tasks.

qualifications

  • A degree in a related field (e.g., industrial design, computers, psychology, etc.);

  • Familiar with basic theories, research methods, design processes and common tools related to human-computer interaction;

  • Strong communication skills in English and Chinese (written and spoken);

  • Experience with research grant applications or participation;

  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to efficiently handle multiple tasks simultaneously;

  • Ability to learn quickly and think independently, good at teamwork, strong sense of responsibility.

Compensation package

Salary package is based on the university's research assistant/visiting student rate + Performance Bonus.
