Workshop at the 3rd Academic Conference on Neuroengineering Management

     The 3rd Neuroengineering Management Conference is going to be held in Southeast University in the era of technology wave forward! The workshop of this conference invites five guests to give four lectures, respectively from the "theoretical foundation - research methodology - case application - experimental operation" of neuroengineering management research to start a detailed introduction, aiming to provide a systematic and comprehensive introduction for the researchers attending the conference. -The workshop is designed to provide researchers attending the Neural Engineering Management Conference with the opportunity to systematically understand the whole process of Neural Engineering Management research.This workshop will be free of charge for paid registered attendees of the 3rd Neuroengineering Management Symposium.

Session 2: Engineering Management Mixed Research Methodology: Theory and Practice


Summary of Content:

The increasing complexity of research problems in the field of engineering management has put forward higher requirements for the comprehensive application of research methods and strategy design. In order to further promote the systematic knowledge and effective practice of hybrid research methodology in academia, this workshop is themed "Hybrid Research Methodology in Engineering Management: Theory and Practice", focusing on the key issues of "why, when and how to hybridize", and focusing on the in-depth integration of methodological logic, research strategy selection and case landing path. The content of this workshop is based on the fourth chapter of the monograph "Research Methodology and Strategy: Theory and Practice", which is jointly presented by the author Prof. Zou Xiaowei and Prof. Xu Xiaoliang, covering the theoretical basis, design framework, application areas and quality standards of mixed research methodology, and combining with the typical cases of engineering management research to launch a systematic explanation and interactive discussion. Keynote Speaker Introductions:

Xiaowei Zou: Ph.D. from the University of New South Wales, Australia, special professor and doctoral supervisor of Chang'an University, with more than 20 years of teaching and research experience in Chinese and foreign universities. He has long been focusing on safety risk, energy saving and emission reduction in engineering management, as well as the innovation and practice of research methodology, and is committed to promoting the integration of methodology and theoretical development under the guidance of interdisciplinary problems. He has published more than 200 papers in domestic and international academic journals, including several representative results focusing on methodology construction and evaluation. He is currently an associate editor of the international journal Safety Science, and has been invited to be a guest editor of a special issue of the international journal Journal of Construction Engineering and Management on research methodology, and actively promotes international communication and academic frontier development in the field of engineering management. He has been selected as one of the top 21 TP4T scientists in the world for many years for his continuous contribution to the field of scientific research.

Xu Xiaoling: Professor and doctoral director of Nanjing Forestry University, Xu Xiaoling has long been devoted to the innovation of research methodology and interdisciplinary integration in the field of engineering management, with a special focus on the application of multi-paradigm synergy, hybrid research methodology, and complex system modeling in engineering management. His research interests include building energy efficiency and low carbon, intelligent construction and operation and maintenance, and he has published more than 60 papers in high level journals.

Introduction to the monograph:

Zou Xiaowei and Xu Xiaoling co-published the monograph "Research Methodology and Strategy: Theory and Practice" in 2023, which is published by the internationally renowned publisher Wiley-Blackwell, and is currently the most recent book in the field of research methodology in engineering management. It is the latest book on research methodology in the field of engineering management, which includes a series of research methodology paradigms and research strategies. The book focuses on the core elements of scientific research, follows the basic logic of scientific research, and organizes the content in a natural and coherent structure, trying to extract methods and processes of universal significance and regularity from the complex process of scientific research, so as to enhance the efficiency, quality, and impact of scientific research work.



Session 3: Building and Renewing Vibrant Cities Assisted by Artificial Intelligence and Human Factors Technologies


Summary of Content:

This talk focuses on how artificial intelligence and human factors technologies can synergistically contribute to the construction and renewal of vibrant cities, emphasizing the deep integration of technology and humanity. The lecture will introduce how to understand citizens' behavioral patterns and emotional feedbacks through big data analysis, machine learning, and human-computer interaction, and turn them into the basis for urban space optimization. On this basis, the lecture will introduce the theory of "Dynamic Structure", and discuss how to integrate "scale hierarchy", "thick boundary", "roughness" and "local symmetry" into the urban spatial optimization. "local symmetry", "echo", "non-separability" and other 15 principles of beauty are applied to urban design, in order to create a city with human scale, aesthetic value and self-evolutionary capacity. The lecture aims to propose a set of future-oriented urban design principles. Dr. Bin Jiang, selected for the National High-level Talent Introduction Program, is currently a Professor in the Urban Governance and Design Domain of the Social Hub, an Adjunct Professor in the Computer Media and Arts Domain of the Information Hub, and the Director of the Livable Cities Laboratory at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). Since 2007, he has founded and led the International Cartographic Association (ICA) Committee on Geospatial Analysis and Modeling, and founded and chaired the ICA Committee on Intelligent Transformation of National Mapping Agencies in 2023. In addition, Prof. Jiang was the Associate Editor for Europe of the journal Computers, Environment, and Urban Systems from 2009 to 2014, and is currently the author of several international journals including Computational Urban Science and International Journal of International Journal of Geographical Information Science, and is currently an Associate Editor and member of the editorial boards of several international journals. Dr. Jiang's career has spanned a number of international academic institutions, including the Free University of Berlin, University College London, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Royal Institute of Technology of Sweden, and the University of Gävle, Sweden. He has also been invited to serve as Honorary Director of the Beijing Urban Laboratory, Scientific Advisor of the International Society for Biopolitanism, European Regional Advisor of the Italian Masters Program in Constructing Beauty, and Visiting Professor at the University of Vienna, Austria and the University of Sassari, Italy. In his academic research, Dr. Jiang focuses on geoinformatics and urban informatics, proposing several new concepts, methods and tools inspired by complexity science. His research focuses on the evolutionary theory of urban vitality structure, analysis methods for spatio-temporal big data, and the development of sustainable urban planning and design tools to promote the construction and development of livable cities.



Session 4: In the Age of IntelligenceIntroduction to Neuroengineering Management Lab Operations


Summary of Content:

In the context of the Intelligent Era, the Neuroengineering Management Experimental Operation realizes the efficient analysis and application optimization of human brain activities by integrating neuroscience, artificial intelligence and management science. It also combines neuroeconomics and behavioral science to optimize the management decision-making model. Utilizing equipment such as electroencephalogram (EEG), functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), and electromyography sensors, real-time recordings of subjects' electroencephalic activity, blood oxygen changes, and muscle status are made. Combined with eye tracking, motion capture system and environmental sensors, a multi-dimensional data model is established to comprehensively assess the state of human-computer interaction. Neuroengineering management is gradually breaking through the boundaries of traditional human-computer interaction, showing transformative potential in construction, medical, industrial and aerospace fields.
